Gravastar Alpha65 Wall Charger Review
Gravastar, a company known for crafting cool-looking gadgets recently released Alpha65, a transformable charger adapter. As an avid tech enthusiast, I had to try this product and put it to the test. In this review, I’ll share my firsthand experience with this innovative charger, exploring its features and use cases.
Transforming, Futuristic Design
The Alpha65 Charger features a unique mecha robot-inspired design that sets it apart from traditional chargers. Its shape-shifting capability allows it to stand tall for display or sit comfortably while charging your devices. It is like a transforming Lego toy, takes a minute to understand.
The ice-red (ice-blue in some variants) front lights not only add a touch of coolness but also provide real-time updates on the charging status.
65W Fast Charging with GaN
65W GaN makes this device multipurpose. This advanced semiconductor material enables the charger to deliver a whopping 65W of charging power resulting in faster charging times and a significant boost in charging speed for your devices.
Say farewell to lengthy charging sessions and embrace quick top-ups that keep you connected throughout the day. Also, modern-day electronics including most laptops support USB-C charging and GaN is ideal for them.
I have used Alpha65 to charge my Macbook and it works flawlessly. Just use a good quality type C cable.
Triple-Device Charging: A Time-Saving Marvel
The Alpha65 comes equipped with three ports – two USB-C and one USB-A – allowing you to charge up to three devices simultaneously. Whether it’s your smartphone, tablet, or laptop, the Alpha65 has got you covered.
This is a blessing for busy professionals, avid gamers, and anyone who appreciates the convenience of charging multiple devices at once.
Equipped with Safety Features
The charger is equipped with 8 real-time protections to safeguard both your gadgets and the charger itself. From overvoltage and overcurrent protection to short circuit and overtemperature prevention, the Alpha65 ensures your devices remain safe and sound during charging.
Other Notable Features
Some of the other useful features include but not limited to,
- Lightweight and Portable – Fits in your pocket but those extra legs might bother you
- Smart charging – This lets the charger intelligently allocate power to each connected device, making sure they receive the most efficient charging rate simultaneously
- Available in different plug options – US, UK and EU variants
There are a couple of CONS too
Firstly, the device is designed for tabletop (horizontal) plug sockets.
When you plug it against a wall, its look is stunted and not so cool. So, if you are getting this solely for its design, see where you are going to plug it.
Plugged vertically (to a wall)
There is another, very annoying issue,
While testing the product, I noticed that whenever I plugged in a new device to one of the USB ports, the other devices connected to the charger would turn off momentarily.
This was so annoying because one of the devices that’s always connected to my Alpha65 is a table lamp and it is on all the time. Now, if I connect my smartphone to the second port, the lamp would turn off for a second or two. This is not smooth at all.
When I reached out to the product support team, they responded by stating that this behavior is normal. The brief interruption is a result of the charger’s protocol matching process to ensure compatibility with the newly connected device.
For some people, it may not be a big deal but to me, it is. I want uninterrupted operation, no matter what goes in or out of the charger.
So, before you buy the product, keep these issues in mind.
- Coolest Design
- 2 USB-C ports and 1 USB-A port
- GaN Technology (65W Fast Charging)
- Available in US, UK, and EU plugs
