TaoTronics TT-BH060 Active Noise Cancellation Headphones Review

Bluetooth Headphones are one of the widely used electronic gadgets for the purpose of listening to music. But these days, the headphone technology has been developed so much that their usage is not just limited to audio but indeed they are being used to create ambient or even a noise-free environment. The Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) is a technology that makes your ANC-enabled headphones adapt to your surrounding noise and diminish it. Pretty cool, is it not? It is a common belief that ANC headphones are expensive and cannot be afforded by many, but in reality, it is not the case. These days, noise-canceling headphones are available in the market at a much cheaper price than you thought of, without compromising the audio quality as well. Among such headphones, the TaoTronics BH 060 is one and in this article, I am reviewing these ANC Wireless Headphones.

What’s in the Box?

Taotronics BH-060 comes in a nice little hard cased box that holds your

I could easily carry the headphones in luggage with the help of the provided hard-cased pouch that would keep everything safe from damaging.

Design and Build Quality

The first impression of the headset is “wow, premium looking”. This ANC headphone has a mediocre design which I don’t care much. Its made up of plastic material that looks durable. The size adjustment slider is made of aluminum but it is terrible to adjust. The tight, not so easy slider makes me use both of my hands to adjust the size. The Right and Left earcups are indicated with letters R and L respectively. The cushion on the earcups look so prominent and feels very comfortable. This is one of the prime factors that decide whether the headphones could be worn for hours without feeling discomfort. But one thing that disappointed me is its weight. TT-BH060 is definitely not lightweight. If you wear this for a long time, you may feel a little discomfort, not in your ears but in your head. Keeping it around your neck while it is being unused is a terrible experience as well.

On the right earcup, you can find the control buttons that include volume up and down, power on and off and Noise Cancellation on and off. The 3.5 mm jack can be found here as well. The left earcup has the micro USB slot that lets your headphones charge. The foldable design makes the headphones tiny and portable. The hinges didn’t seem to misbehave and worked so smoothly. I had dropped the headphones a couple of times but it is rugged enough to take a few shocks.

Sound Quality and BASS

I would say very very good but not outstanding as the expensive ones like Audio Technica ATH M50x or Sony WH1000XM3 ANC but if I compare these headphones with any other in the price point of around $50, TaoTronics beats them all. Since its Bluetooth 5.0, the audio is so stable and clear. No signs of delay or distortion exist. The Bass is very good, I would listen to music for hours together (especially when I am flying) and there is no discomfort or pain in the ear at all, even the high-frequency tunes are smooth and pleasant. I had experienced some hissing sound whenever WhatsApp messages arrived. The hissing sound is so mild that you hardly notice it. While the headphone is worn, even at high volume, the sound will not leak outside, so nobody could hear what you are hearing!

How Good is the Noise Cancellation?

Good enough to get sound sleep on an Airplane. In my case, the flight noise haunts me every time when I fly but with these headphones on, I slept peacefully during my recent flight from New Jersey to Frankfurt. It won’t cancel 100% of the external noise but its more than enough to get a good sleep in a flight. The device has “Active Noise Cancellation” which means, it diminishes the noise based on the surrounding acoustics. For example, when you are on a plane, the device recognizes the flight noise and produces the ANC effect suitable for it. When you are home, the noise cancellation effect could be different but it is efficient. Just by putting the headphones on, you can feel a bit of noise isolation because of the thickly cushioned earcups. The isolation will be more when the ANC button is turned on.

While you are listening to music, the ANC effect need not be used because the audio itself will be loud enough to filter out the external noise but if there is much noise around you, using ANC while playing songs would help a lot.

P.S: The ANC button lets you turn on the active noise cancellation without turning on the headphones itself. This significantly increases the battery backup.

Battery Life

For me, battery life is an important factor when I look at any gadget but these headphones do not meet my expectations in terms of battery backup. The company claims to have 30 hours of battery backup but I would probably say its around 27 hours which is not great. In fact, most of the wireless headphones provide a similar battery backup but the Audio Technica’s newly released ATH SR30BT has a massive 70 hours battery life. I am not kidding, I have one at home which I got during CES 2019 and I charge it, maybe once in every 20 days or so with daily usage of about 3 hours. It costs at around $100, audio quality is better than TaoTronics and its a bang for the buck. The negatives are that it does not have ANC and has poor noise isolation which could be a deal-breaker. Coming back to TaoTronics BH060, the device can be charged via any USB chargers such as a phone charger. It uses a micro USB cable and charges pretty quickly. There is a battery charging indicator on the left earcup. The light turns off when the device is fully charged. While connected to a smartphone, you can see the percentage of battery remaining under Bluetooth Settings.

The charging time is impressive. The device has quick charge function, so 5 to 10 minutes of charging gives you around two hours of battery backup. I did not notice the exact time it took for a full charge but it is definitely under an hour.

Microphone

TaoTronics wireless headphones do have microphones in them but do not expect an amazing mic quality. Unlike the gaming headsets where the mic is separated from the headset, this ANC headphone microphone embedded in their Right Earcup. It is suitable for calls but might not be a good option for voice recording. During voice/video calls, you need not shout at it, the mic is good enough to pick up your mild voice.

Bluetooth Connection

TaoTronics BH060 headphones are equipped with Bluetooth 5.0 which is very stable and consumes less power when compared to its older versions. The Bluetooth connection with a Smartphone or a Laptop is hassle-free and simple to set up. I have mentioned more about pairing in the FAQ section at the end of this review. The Bluetooth range is about 20 meters or so (if there are no obstructions). If the headset is moved over the range, the connection could be disturbed or fully broken. When you are back in the range, the Bluetooth will be automatically connected to the phone and the song (if anything was playing when the connection broke) resumes automatically as well.

Control Buttons

The controls are simple as well. Pressing the power button stops/plays the song, pressing it twice calls the previously dialed phone number. The Volume Up and Down buttons are used to control audio volume and pressing the same for more than 2 seconds would skip the existing track to the next and previous track respectively.  The ANC button, if enabled, activates the noise cancellation and diminishes the external noise.
